(1)  A joint working project to redefine the care pathway for prostate cancer and grow brand market share

Situation
A pharmaceutical company with a reputation for innovative approaches to customers and partnership working. A product license had reverted to them for a brand used in the treatment of prostate cancer.

Task
Identify opportunities for joint working that can produce a win:win outcome for NHS (GP consortia and Commissioning Groups) and the Company.

Action
Recruited an Expert Panel comprised of GP Consortia Chairs and Commissioning Leads, Directors and Medicines Management and Prescribing Leads.
Developed a revised care pathway and the Expert Panel asked if they could form a Working Party to develop and implement a Locally Enhanced Service (LES) template to implement the changes.

Delivery and Results
A pilot project is being implemented to demonstrate the outcomes of the revised care pathway including assessments of patient satisfaction.
In the meantime, the impact on the sales of the client’s brand has been significant.
After flat sales for five years it now has the highest absolute volume growth in the class and gained more than 5% market share since the transfer of marketing authorization. Market share in some regions has now reached 85%.

 

(2) A new spirit of collaboration and partnership between Psychiatrists, Specialist Mental Health Pharmacists and a pharmaceutical company

Situation
A medium-size pharmaceutical company planning to launch their first product in mental health.

Task
Identify the potential obstacles to market access and early product adoption in both secondary and primary care and to make strategic recommendations. Begin the process of establishing trust and building a positive reputation for the company in mental health.

Action
Recruited and facilitated a series of meetings with Specialist Mental Health Pharmacists. Recommended that a joint program (Pharmacist/company) be developed to facilitate the “structured evaluation” of the new product including the collection of observational audit data. This was accepted and agreed by all parties.

Delivery and Results
Developed an on-line database allowing input of information on the product's clinical performance and whether this is consistent with product claims. You can view all the outcomes by clicking the link below
